A Personal Message from RICHARD:

Happy Fall my dear Ask America Supporters!  I hope you had a glorious summer, and a great start to the new school year.  As we all know, Congress has been very busy this Fall.  I trust that you are quite busy too.  I know I am,........crazy busy in fact, and yet we still find the time to support and stand for what we believe in and know is right.  Once again, I thank you for standing with me and my PE Crusade.  Positive change is rarely quick and easy, and we must patiently continue to voice our belief in the undeniable powers of Physical Activity and Positive Self-Worth. We truly have made progress, much progress, but there is more work to be done.  The CDC's recently reported that the weight gains of America's young people are tapering off.....but.........1 in 6 people between the ages of 2 and 19 is considered obese.  We are absolutely moving in the right direction, but, we can still do better for our kids.  Please take care of yourselves, your families and your pets during this Holiday Season, and I hope I make you smile with myHairdo video!  Love, Richard.

FIT Kids Act in Congress:
Our Washington contacts tell us that FIT Kids remains in the SENATE version of the new Education Law.  There is no firm schedule yet, as to when Congress will address the issue.  Stay tuned for further updates.

Revised AAHPERD PE Standards:  2013:
AAHPERD has just published new 2013 guidelines and PE Standards for your immediate use.  Here is all the information for you:

"AAHPERD is proud to announce that the new National Standards & Grade-Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education are now posted at http://www.aahperd.org/whatwedo/nationalStandards.cfm

Click here to download an extensive chart that details grade-specific outcomes for students under the new National Standards."

The NFL and Sesame Street?:
An odd pairing you say?  Not really.  Both have recently lent their time and talent to the Healthier Kids "movement".  Richard's friends in the NFL (yes....we're serious!) along with
their partners, the National Dairy Council, created "Fuel Up to Play 60 (which) is the nation’s largest in-school wellness program and creates real transformational change in more than 73,000 schools"........Thank you to both great organizations And a GREAT big thank you to the fine folks at SESAME STREET for their ASTOUNDING partnership with First Lady MICHELLE OBAMA: "Sesame Workshop and the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) joined the Partnership for a Healthier America in a two-year agreement to help promote fresh fruit and vegetable consumption to kids, making those healthy choices a little easier for busy parents and families.  The agreement allows PMA's community of growers, suppliers, and retailers to utilize the strength and influence of the Sesame Street Brand without a licensing fee."
BRAVO BIG BIRD AND ELMO!!!!!!

NEW RESEARCH:  supporting our efforts:
From the BBC:

"Intensive exercise improves the academic performance of teenagers, according to new research.
The study, of about 5,000 children, found links between exercise and exam success in English, maths and science.
It found an increase in performance for every extra 17 minutes boys exercised, and 12 minutes for girls.
The study by the universities of Strathclyde and Dundee found physical activity particularly benefited girls' performance at science."
