RICHARD NEEDS YOUR HELP:
My dear friends, as you have.... what I hope will be a most spectacular summer..... would you be so kind as to spare a little time to help me make a difference? The school year is ending, but, our serious work for physical education and physical activity..... is just beginning........and it's going to take all of us working together to create positive changes. Congress has finally, ...begun to work on Education reform, and we have two very important bills that we would like to see included in the new Education Law. Our e-mails, letters and calls will make all the difference. Once again, please,..... pretty please, join your voice with mine, and tell Congress that good health is vital to good learning. Everything you need to know..... is right here below!!! I say, let the kids sweat...it's the best bet! Love and sincere gratitude, Richard
FIT KIDS ACT/PHYSICAL ACT:
The FIT Kids Act, and The PHYSICAL Act were reintroduced in to the 113th Congress last week. The bills work in concert to establish and support physical education and physical activity in schools. Here are very brief descriptions of each bill:
1. The FIT Kids ACT (S.1033) (H.R. 2178): A Bill sponsored by Senator Tom Harkin and Representatives Ron Kind and Aaron Schock that establishes programs to support Physical Education, Physical Activity, Fitness and Nutrition for all students. Involves teachers, parents and school leaders. Requires no additional revenues, other than allocating existing Federal Funding.
2. The PHYSICAL ACT (S.392) (H.R. 2160): A Bill, sponsored by Senator Tom Udall and Representative Marcia Fudge, calling for PE and HEALTH to be listed as CORE Subjects and as such, eligible for already existing Federal Funding. Requires no additional revenues.

Institute of Medicine Report:
Recently, the prestigious Institute of Medicine, released a report on the strong relationship of vigorous physical activity to successful learning. The report urges Congress to act and act now. Here is a summary of the article, from The TODAY Show (great supporters and friends of our Crusade), sent to us by PE teacher, Mr.N., for use with your own school districts:
