"I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it..."

 
         Hello there my Clubhouse Members and Website friends!
 
         What's got me singing that song?  Well, I am excited that TimeLife is releasing a 30th anniversary edition of my Sweatin' to the Oldies DVDs!   This is the first complete set with all five uncut Sweatin' workouts in one package!  And you'll also get a bonus DVD and a book of photos selected by ME!   Click here to learn more!
 
         And a Happy Thanksgiving month to you all!   What are you thankful for this year?   I'm thankful for all of you!  And I'm also thankful for the nice folks at Time Life and for everyone who helped put this DVD projecttogether. 
 
         What are your plans for Thanksgiving day?   Skinless turkey breast, a nice green salad, roasted beets, and steamed string beans?   LOL   Ok, ok.... I know you're probably going to have a few other things... I know you most probably have some people coming over, and you have traditions you've kept going for many years.
 
       I remember in detail my Thanksgiving dinners I shared with my family growing up. It was utter chaos at 926 St. Louis Street. We were all in the kitchen with about 20 friends of my mom and dad. The record player was going, and I can still hear all the laughter we shared. Then my father ordered everybody out of the kitchen and asked us to go sit down at the dining room table. When everyone was seated, he came in the dining room carrying the golden bird on a silver platter. Then he would sit down and say grace.
 
         My father had a beautiful voice, and he said the same prayer as his grandfather did.   One Thanksgiving, my father invited three of the nuns that taught Lenny and me in school. I must tell you, I was a little nervous abut having them come over, but I have to admit, they were great company. Before we ate, each nun said a little prayer.  It was a very special evening.
         When I was in college in Italy, all of us in the exchange program took over the kitchen and cooked a traditional Thanksgiving for all of us to enjoy. That evening, a student from Germany sang grace. It was a beautiful song. I didn't understand a word, because she sang it in German, and as she sang, tears flowed down her eyes. We all started to well up, because we were all so homesick.
         The next Thanksgiving was my all time favorite. It was the year my brother came home from Vietnam. I worried and missed him so much. Just sitting next to him was so wonderful! I remember hugging him all evening, and that year, Lenny said grace, and it was very powerful.
         I know you have wonderful memories of your own, and you will make more memories this year!  But, promise me you'll be careful and watch your portions!   You've tasted all those foods before....and the first tastes are the ones you enjoy the most anyway....you don't have to overdo it!   Also, please  promise me you'll get in some movement.  Get your family or friends to go for a walk after Thanksgiving dinner...make it a new tradition!
 
        You know I always have a recipe to share with you, and this month it's a recipe to help you use up some of those Thanksgiving leftovers!
 

Turkey Cranberry Salad

 
For 4 people 
  • 8  oz sliced white meat turkey
  • 1/4  cup dried cran-raisins
  • 1  cup grape tomatoes
  • 1  peeled, chopped cucumber
  • 1/4  cup sliced red onion
  • 8  cups mixed lettuce
  • 4  Tb sliced almonds
  • 1/2  cup fat free raspberry dressing
  • 4  Tb balsamic vinegar
  1. Toss all ingredients together and serve
Using turkey in salads, soups, and casseroles is a great way to make use of the Thanksgiving leftovers.
