PE Rally!!!

Dear Ask America Supporters,

With Healthcare reform topping the agenda in his speech to the American Medical Association last week in Chicago, President Obama cited childhood obesity statistics and the need to improve overall prevention as key issues.

And as such....the timing of our NEW YORK CITY FIT Kids Press Conference and RALLY on Friday, June 19th is....... perfect, and our sponsors in WASHINGTON think so too!

This is perfect timing for getting the bill pushed through the Education and Labor Committee.

Here are some additional updates on FIT Kids: HR 1585, from the office of Congressman Ron Kind:

Currently more than 72 members of the HOUSE have
     signed on as Co-sponsors.
The OBAMA ADMINISTRATION is very committed to
     reducing Childhood Obesity.

The House education and Labor Committee is poised to
advance the FIT Kids Act, however, we still need additional
     support. (Keep those letters coming!)

RICHARD is already in New York City, to do a great deal of press for the FIT Kids Bill and Friday's CITY HALL RALLY.

In fact, there are two very exciting additions to the Press Schedule since we last wrote.  They are:

     ANDERSON COOPER 360
on CNN, Thursday, June 18th in the second hour, and,

FOX RED EYE,  Thursday, June 18th.

Both segments will deal with childhood obesity, inactivity and the FIT Kids Bill.

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT will also be covering the entire event.

On to FRIDAY, JUNE 19th, a very busy day for Richard Simmons and FIT Kids.

The day begins with more local press immediately followed by 5th Grade Graduation at PS 1 in Chinatown, where Richard will give the Keynote Commencement Address.  His speech encourages each student "to believe and work hard, show kindness and respect, and know that with those qualities, anything is possible." Congratulations Graduates!

Then it's on to City Hall for the Introduction of the FIT Kids City Resolution.  (See Specific Details and Map below)

     Speakers include:
 Council Member Tony Avella

Richard Simmons

Michelle Bouchard (President HealthCorps/Dr. Mehmet Oz)

Dr. Susan Schwager, National Association for Sports and Physical Education

Dr. Joseph J. Abularrage (pronounced - Ah boo la raj), Chairman, Department of Pediatrics, New York Hospital Queens

Dr. Peri Millman, Director, Pediatric Gastroenterology, New York Hospital Queens

Dr. Anthony Porto, Pediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition, Director Fit Kids Program, New York Hospital Queens

Michelle Hickok, Teacher, Tesago Elementary School, Clifton, New York

Aedan Gillan, Student, Tesago Elementary School, Clifton, New York

Julia Haig, Student, Tesago Elementary School, Clifton, New York

Good Jean Lau, Physical Education Teacher, PS 1 Manhattan

Dr. Mary Yoke AFAA

Of Special Note:
Teacher Michelle Hickok and her 4th grade class from Tesago Elemtary in Clifton, New York, raised funds to make the 6 hour round trip to be with Richard at the Rally by holding a can and bottle drive.  The PTA and Principal "kicked in" the rest.  They believe that strongly in the benefits of the 12 minutes, the DAILY DOZEN, of PE each classroom teacher does daily.  THEY ARE OUR MOST HONORED GUESTS.

With studies finding youth exhibiting thickening of the neck arteries usually seen in much older people, and the benefits of EARLY prevention education showing great promise, the world needs more Ms. Hickok's......thank you so much!

As always...thank you too, Ask America supporters.  You are simply amazing.  If you can't join us in NYC Friday, we promise to give you a detailed report shortly thereafter.

     Thank you so very,very much,
     ASK AMERICA
