Dear Ask America Supporters,
We hope that you are enjoying a most pleasant and safe summer!
On April 21, 2010, because of your dedication and commitment... The FIT KIDS Act was successfully PASSED in the United Sates HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Again, on behalf of Richard, teachers and families across the nation... thank you very, very much. You made History that day.
The very next morning, Richard joined with Chairman Miller, Reps Kind and Wamp, and dignitaries from American Heart, NASPE and HealthCorps, to celebrate the achievement on Capitol Hill:

It was a great and glorious day... a long time in the making.
The absolutely spectacular day finished with a quick flight to New York City for a live visit to the Neal Cavuto Show! Neal wanted to apologize in person to Richard for consistently doubting that we could ever succeed in passing this bill in the House!!!!!!!!

Now friends...before we get too comfortable...there is one more very large hurdle to cross.
To be signed in to LAW.....the FIT KIDS Act next requires a successful SENATE VOTE.
As of today, the Bill remains in committee in the SENATE, with no scheduled vote, however, as we have experienced first hand, that can change quickly, with strong public support.
Whether the bill is attached to another bill, voted on as a "stand alone", or included in the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.... it's ultimate survival depends on us!
Could you please be so kind as to once again, take a moment to write to THE SENATE in support of the FIT KIDS ACT, and ask your friends to do the same?:

THANK YOU very much. These letters NOT ONLY "COUNT", they, and all regular "reminder" letters are tallied and counted.
With very serious issues, such as the economy, the tragedy in the Gulf, and upcoming elections, we have been warned that it doesn't look very promising for FIT Kids ......however.....this situation is also, very serious.
IN SPITE OF great efforts and achievements in awareness, the latest figures on Obesity and Inactivity across the Nation, in all states, in all age groups continues to RISE, seriously affecting quality of life, health care costs, and as research strongly suggests, students' academic achievement.
Awareness is very important, however, there is now much more ACTION required, which our FIT Kids Bill, while only a first step.....IS.
Here is a brief summary of what the BILL REQUIRES:

Not all is bleak!!!!!!!!!!!!! In fact, for one, the next edition of official Dietary Guidelines includes sections on Physical Activity and School based fitness. The First Lady's Let's Move Program is making leaps and bounds in addressing and combating Childhood Obesity.
The powers that be in Washington and even some in the media told us that FIT Kids would probably never really amount to much, and "they" were WRONG!
With that thought in mind, let us move forwards, in spite of the statistics and odds, and continue to try to improve the health and future of our children and our nation. We have to.
As always, thank you.............
